Jeff Gordon was born on August 4th 1971 in Vellejo, California. He was raised in Pittsboro, Indiana and he currently lives in Charlotte, north Carolina. He is a four time Sprint cup champion and a three time Daytona 500 winner. His sponsor is primarily DuPont, Pepsi and Nicorette and he is the No. 24 driver of his Chevrolet Impala. Jeff Gordon also has a stake in his number 24 team.
In the years 1991 / 1992 Jeff Gordon drove in the Busch Series for Bill Davis Racing and in his very first year he won the rookie of the year. In 1992 Jeff Gordon captured 11 poles in one season – a record in itself. During his tenure at Bill Davis racing he was introduced to his crew chief Ray Evernham.
In the year 1993 Jeff Gordon went on to race his first full season in the Winston Cup which is now known as the sprint cup.
He bagged the Daytona 500 qualifying race and the rookie of the year award – he finished 14th in points. It was due to Jeff Gordon that young drivers were allowed to race at such a level. Jeff Gordon had his fair share of people who doubted his racing skills – in the year 1993 Jeff Gordon had the tendency to push the cars too much and crash, therefore many doubted his abilities.
Skipping ahead to the present season of 2008: Jeff Gordon finished fourth in the Budweiser shootout and he finished third in the Gatorade Duel qualifying race. He led the Daytona 500 for eight laps but on the 159th lap his car suffered suspension failure and he ended up in the 39th position.
In the month of March this year Jeff Gordon went on to collect his 64th pole of his career in the Kobalt tools 500 – he finished 5th and he leaded for 3 laps. Later he bagged his 65th pole in the Goody’s cool orange. He finished second after being involved in a crash and leading the race for 90 laps.
In the Dodge Challenger 500 he finished 3rd which made it his 4th consecutive top 3 finish in the event. He finished 3rd again at the Toyota/Save Mart 350 Jeff Gordon got his 66th career pole while racing at the Dover International speedway. He led for 30 laps and Greg Biffle won that event.
In the year 2008 Jeff Gordon has raced in 30 races, won none, captured 3 poles, bagged 10 top 5s and 14 top 10s. He has earned himself a total of $4,650,649 so far this year. His overall career standings are, 539 races, 81 wins, 66 poles, 244 top 5s and 331 top 10s.
Jeff Gordon will be inducted in the National Midget Auto racing Hall of Fame on January 10, 2009 at Chili Bowl Nationals race at Tulsa.
Jeff Gordon is one of the greatest racing legends to grace the Nascar and surely enough he has a very bright future ahead of him.
