This Week on Nascar

We are into an important phase of the Nascar racing calendar as the season moves towards a close, the drivers fight it out ruthlessly for all the points they can manage. There is only one thing that the fans can come to expect from the following Nascar racing events that are to follow – and that is ‘the unexpected’.

The Tums QuikPak 500 is held at the Martinsville Speedway in Martinsville, Virginia. Out of a total of 10, it is the 6th race that lead up to the Sprint Cup in February. The Tums 500 one of the oldest Nascar racing events as it has been around for five decades with Richard Petty winning the race six times in five years during the sixties and early seventies. Darrell Waltrip has been pretty impressive as well by winning the QuickPak 500 six times during the 1980s. Jimmie Johnson has been winning the checkered flag twice for the last two years consecutively and he will surely be returning to Virginia Speedway to seal that valuable hat-trick win.

The Pep Boys Auto 500 is scheduled to begin in Atlanta Motor Speedway, Hampton, GA on the 26th of this month. Atlanta is indeed one of the fastest Nascar racing tracks of the Nascar circuit and as always it promises some grueling tire screeching action. With just four races to go, the points are weighed in gold as each driver claws, scratches and bites its way around the Speedway to get ahead and score some points. There is no doubt that that this event arouses fan interest tremendously. Jimmie Johnson, driving his Chevy, bagged this Nascar racing event last year whereas Tony Stewart and Carl Edwards pocketed the checkered flag in the years 2006 and 2005 respectively.

The Dickies 500 will be held at the Texas Motor Speedway, Fort Worth, TX on the 2nd of November. This Nascar racing event is also refereed to as the Francis Ferko 500 by traditionalist fans who are upset at the fall of the Southern 500. There is also a movie by the name Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby that features this event – it shows Ricky Bobby spiraling out of control at the end of the speedway but finally putting the car in reverse and crossing the checkered flag backwards. Jimmie Johnson (Chevy) won this Nascar racing event as well last year in 2007 and earned himself an astounding $486,211 in the process. Tony Stewart took the prize in 2006 (Chevy) whereas Carl Edwards (Ford) flew across the speedway to win the first Dickies back in 2005. Therefore, the manufacturer Chevy has won the Dickies twice and Ford has won it once so far.

The Checker O'Reilly Auto Parts 500 will be taking place at Phoenix International Raceway, Avondale, AZ on the 9th of November. This Nascar racing event is NASCAR’s semi final showdown to the Sprint Cup. A total of 43 drivers would be testing each others mettle in order to determine who would be the ‘champion of the Speedways’. Jimmie Johnson was once again very impressive as he not only won the event last year but infact also sealed an outstanding 4 race winning streak – this ought to be some kind of Nascar racing award.

It Seems that Jimmie Johnson has all the luck, talent and skill one can ask for as he has been the winner and the center of attention in all four events last year – the TUMS QuikPak 500, the Pep Boys Auto 500, Dickies 500 and the Checker O'Reilly Auto Parts 500. Lets see what he has for the fans this time around and having said that, let me remind you that this is Nascar racing and it would be a huge mistake to underestimate the Jeff Gordon’s, the Kyle Busch’s and the Carl Edwards.
