We are more than half way through the Nascar racing schedule 08 season. The race to the Sprint cup top 10s is on and with each race the heat is turned on ever so more, the drivers push harder and the excitement in the air reaches heart-failing and sweat inducing heights. Jimmie Johnson is currently sitting pretty on the number one spot and he has said that he knows not what makes him and his team perform better during these latter races of the season even tough they don’t really try any harder. Jimmie is also being considered as the future Nascar racing champion by many as he has an impressive record of making it to victory lane four times out of a mere thirteen attempts on the mountainous track of Virginia. Critics and fans are naming him as the favorite for almost all the upcoming races in the Nascar schedule– especially the latter ones. Jimmie seems to be one of those unique sportsmen who has the knack of rising up to the big game – he is pretty much up there with Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan and Tom Brady etc.
Moving forward in the Nascar schedule to the Pep Boys Auto 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway Hampton, GA on the 26th of October. Jimmie Johnson has been racing very well on this track in the past and he surely must be looking forward to this event on this Sunday – previously Tony Stewart, Carl Edwards, Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon have won this race in 2006, 05, 04, 03 respectively.
Later in the Nascar schedule, The spotlight will move to the Dickies 500 next at the Texas Motor Speedway Fort Worth, TX on the 11th of November. This racing track is also one of Jimmy’s favorites and he being the previous winner here last time around, would surely have the Psychological edge over his other rivals. Other close competitors, Edwards, Dale, Burton, Gordon and Hamlin, would surely like to get as close to the number one spot as possible. In 2006 it was Tony Stewart’s Chevy and in 2005 it was Edward’s Ford that bagged the checkered flag.
Next in the Nascar schedule we move onto Phoenix International Raceway at Avondale, AZ - this is where the Checker O'Reilly Auto Parts 500 is scheduled to take place on the 9th of November. In the last 10 years, Jimmy Has raced 6 races in this event with 1 win, 3 top 5s and 5 top 10s – also winning the event last year. Jeff has raced 10 times without a win but he has 4 top 5s and 10 top 10s. Jeff Burton has 2 wins here with 4 top 5s and 7 top 10s. Biffle and Harvick have been racing well too two wins a piece in this event. It seems that this event could g to anyone and it would depend purely on who races well on that day.
Further up the Nascar schedule the fans will get to watch more heart pumping action in the Checker O’Reilly there at the Homestead-Miami Speedway in Homestead, FL on the 16th. Carl Edwards has done outstandingly well in this event with 4 races in the last 10 years and bagging 1 pole, 2 top 5s and 3 top 10s. Others who have been racing well in this event are Greg Biffle with 3 wins and Tony Stewart with 2 wins here. This event would be Edwards chance to cash in on his good luck at this event and climb the points table as much as possible.
