Pep Boys Auto 500 is set to take place at the Atlanta Motor Speedway on the 26th of this month. The Atlanta motor speedway is one of the fastest of the Nascar tracks and it will be playing host to the seventh race leading to the Sprint cup.
Dale Earnhardt has the most wins and the highest number of top 5s on this Nascar track - 9 wins and 26 top 5s. Richard Petty has 33 top tens - the highest on this Nascar track. Buddy Baker and Ryan Newman have the highest poles. Cale Yarborough has led the highest number of laps with a staggering figure of 3297 on this.
The Dickies 500 is scheduled to take place at the Texas Motor speedway next month. This event takes place every year on the first weekend of November. Last year Jimmie Johnson lighted up this Nascar track by taking the first prize.
In 2006 it was Tony Stewart and in 2005 Carl Edwards bagged the Dickies 500 first spot. This particular Nascar track has given Chevrolet 2 wins whereas ford has 1.
The Nascar Semi final show down returns on Sunday, November 9th with the Checker O’Reilly Auto parts 500 and the run up to the Sprint Cup at the Phoenix International Raceway. This weekend event will have 43 top drivers fight it out to determine who the champion would be. Last year it was Jimmie Johnson who took the prize and also sealed an outstanding 4 race winning streak.
The Ford 400 is due to be held at Homestead-Miami Speedway in Homestead, Florida on the 16th of November. This race is comparatively new to the Nascar – it was first held back in 1999 and since 2002 it has been part of the Ford Championship weekend. The 2004 event turned out to be a smashing success as Kurt Busch barely managed to hold off Jimmie Johnson by just eight points – the closest final margin in the history of Nascar.
Matt Kenseth finished first in the 2007 Ford 400. This Nascar track has proven to be lucky for Greg Biffle as he bagged the top spot for three consecutive years – 2006, 2005 and 2004. Bobby Labonte, Kurt Busch and Bill Elliot bagged the top spot in the years 2003, 2002 and 2001 respectively. Tony Stewart won for two consecutive years in 2000 and 1999. Ford has been the most successful on in this event with a total of 5 wins, Pontiac has had 2 and Dodge and Chevy have had one each.
The Sprint cup is scheduled to begin next year in February. It will open with the Budweiser Shootout at the Daytona International Speedway.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. won the Shoot out this year driving his Chevy across the checkered flag. The year before it was Tony Stewart (Chevy), in 2006 it was Denny Hamlin (Chevy), in 2005 it was Jimmie Johnson (Chevy). Chevy has been the most impressive manufacturer in the Shootout on this Nascar track.
The Sprint Cup is held at a total of 22 superb Nascar tracks consisting of Speedways and Raceways including the Atlanta Motor Speedway, Dover International Speedway, Lowe's Motor Speedway, Richmond International Raceway, Bristol Motor Speedway, Darlington Raceway etc. The Chevy has once again been the most impressive manufacturer on these Nascar tracks along with Ford being a distant second. These Nascar tracks have also been a lucky for Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt as they have won the highest number of Sprint cup Championships (7), Bill Rexford has been the youngest champion at 23, Bobby Allison has been the oldest at 45. Benny Parsons, Bill Rexford, Ned Jarrett, Matt Kenseth have had the fewest victories (1 each) and Cale Yarborough has won the highest number of consecutive championships (3).
